Is the Youngstown Vindicator still in business? ›

As of September 1, 2019, The Vindicator is now published by Tribune Chronicle of which Brenda Linert is the editor. In March 2024, The Vindicator and the Tribune Chronicle announced both paper's will end their Sunday print editions, and instead offer a larger weekend edition on Saturdays.

The dramatic collapse of the steel industry led to the loss of tens of thousands of jobs and a precipitous decline in population. Having lost more than half its population and almost its entire industrial base in the last 30 years, the city is now left with an oversized urban structure.

Sheet and Tube went the way of all flesh, ultimately ceasing all operations in Youngstown. The U.S. Steel mill closed as well. An entire way of life was vanishing — and taking a lot with it. It was estimated that a total of 50,000 jobs were gone by the early 1980s.
